Homemade fat loss shakes are a option when it comes to losing weight. They are a convenient option especially of you are short of time. However they should be full of high quality nutrients, something that commercially prepared ones don’t have. The other benefit making them at home is that the ingredients you use will be fresh.
Here’s your checklist…
every homemade fat loss shake should have four main ingredients.
1. Low or zero calorie base.
Water or chilled green tea will work best to start with. If you are having the shake after a workout you may want to add some low fat milk or even some almond milk. You can also go half and half with any of these ingredients until you get the right mix to suit your taste and goals.
2. High quality protein.
The ironic thing about a lot of commercial fat loss or protein shakes is that they don’t actually have a good protein component. I would recommend using a whey protein concentrate powder or some natural yogurt. Once again you can mix and match these two ingredients as well.
3. Fruit, Berries or Vegetables
Adding some, or all, of these will make a massive difference to the amount of nutrients in your shake. It is also going to be the difference between a homemade fat loss shake and a commercially prepared one. The fruit and berry choices will be easy and based on your taste preferences. Personally I like to use bananas, raspberries and blueberries in my shakes. As for vegetables, you can’t go past adding a handful of spinach to a shake. It will add some color and a whole heap of nutrients, but won’t affect the taste at all. Trust me on this, and don’t comment on the subject until you have tried it!
4. Good Fats
Good fats are a very important when trying to lose weight. The best source for your shakes is nut butters. Peanut butter, almond butter and cashew butter are my favorites but you can try or use any others you like. The added benefit of using the nut butters as a fat source is that they are also packed full of fiber which will keep you feeling fuller for longer as well as keep your insides nice and healthy.
