What’s Holding You Back?

This morning I did something that I have been putting off for at least five years.

It is something I have truly been fearful of.

Fearful to the point that when I thought about it I would feel nauseous, sweaty and my heart rate would rise.

When I found out I would be doing it, my eyes welled up because of the built up emotion I carried.

I had to do it, now was the time. I wasn’t going to be putting it off any longer.

Today, if you didn’t know is my 30th birthday. And kindly enough, my wife Racheal organised for me to go skydiving (that is, jump out of a perfectly good plane) from 10 000 feet.

This has been my number one fear since at least my 25th birthday when I said bravely that I would do it. Instead I packed my bags and moved to Queensland. Talk about confronting fears head on!! Then I have considered doing it every year since, as well as in most scenic cities we have visited, and never followed through.

The result? It gets worse. The built up anticipation and fear multiplies. What was once (possibly) completely reasonable now seems completely impossible.

(I remember lying on the couch when we lived in Broadbeach, eye closed, visualising flying up in the plane, opening the door and ‘jumping’ out. I fell off the couch, my heart was racing, and telling myself I couldn’t do it.)

Now having done it, I feel,… well I don’t really know how I feel.

I do feel a bit numb, I feel that I have a different perspective on life (and Hobart! what a view!!) but it’s hard to put how I feel into words.

What I do know however, is that I can now do anything I want to and that the only thing holding me back is myself and a negative outlook or mindset.

Which ever way you look at it, if you tell yourself that you can or can’t do something, you are going to be right.

So what is holding you back from achieving your goals? Chances are that you might have put some of your own obstacles in the way whether they be physical or mental.

Work on finding solutions and ways to overcome these obstacles instead of focusing on the problem.

Make a change to something in your control that will bring you closer to your goal instead of further away (and instead of making the obstacle appear bigger).

Utilise the information you have at your disposal and take action! Knowledge isn’t power unless you do something with it.

Today I want you to have a look at yourself in the mirror, ask yourself “What is my biggest fear? What is holding me back?”

Then openly ond honestly answer the question. Tell yourself what you are going to do to overcome this fear or obstacle.

Believe it then do it.

The rewards are amazing and cannot be put into words.

My experience today backs this up 100% and I want everyone to feel the same!

Have a great day.

Things I Like – Volume Two

Here’s a quick look at some more things I like for various reasons!

1. Fred and Friends

These guys design cool stuff! I like pretty much anything they make, and yes you do have to pay a bit more for the cool designer look! Recent additions to our collection include the M-Cups (not what you might be thinking!!) You can check out all of their cool kitchen stuff which make cooking even more fun!!

2. Australian Kettlebells

Now, Australian Kettlebells aren’t any different to any other kettlebells, but the guys there have a great range of training gear that I not only use but totally recommend. They have bands, bags, ropes, rings, clubs, vests and kettlebells of course! We always use their gear at our Hobart Bootcamp for Women with great effect!

3. Dr. Jonny Bowden

Not that Dr Jonny is just a thing, but all of his products are first class. I have a few of his books, CD’s and always get something from reading his articles. He has a very solid academic background and all of his information is based on research. He also stays up to date with the latest findings and as such from following his writing you stay right on point with all the current research. You might not like that sort of thing but I do, hence it’s place on this list!

4. Tea

Tea is a drink. But it is more than just one drink. If you say you don’t like tea, then you had better have tried them all because of the few hundred thousand or so variations available there is going to be one you like. If you haven’t already have a quick look at my article on tea. There are plenty of health benefits associated with drinking tea, but they also help to keep you hydrated and feeling full. You can get some sweet teas if you are looking for something to fill the 3pm gap, such as the Qi White and Fruity Tea.

What is a Boot camp?

After successfully launching Hobart’s only boot camp with a 30 day money back guarantee I thought it would be a good time to go over what I think a bootcamp should be.

It has to be fun. We have enough stress in our lives these days so when it comes to choosing an extra curricular activity it needs to be enjoyable. If you want someone yelling and screaming at you, then go and join the army, but if you want to get fitter, lose weight and fit back into your skinny jeans, then find a boot camp that is fun.

It has to be effective. As well as being stressed, and because of it, our time is very valuable. Gone are the days of slugging out hours of useless cardio with no results. A bootcamp for fat loss needs to be short (30-60 minutes) and deliver results. Interval type resistance training that we run at our bootcamps has been shown to be up to 9 times more effective for fat loss than most generic 60 minute workouts. If your trainer can’t give you some sort of guarantee to back up their services and promises. I’d think twice about joining.

It needs to be safe. Leave the tyre carrying overhead and other potentially dangerous exercises to the army. Sure if you want to develop mental toughness and the mindset required for war there might not be a better approach. But considering 95% of our campers want to get fitter and lose more fat then the best place for them to be is at the bootcamp training and not injured on the sideline.

It needs to have a trial. Boot camp exercises programs aren’t for everyone. Some people are happy to go solo, or do some smaller group session. Each to their own. The thing is though, you might not know if you are going to like something until you have tried it. It’s only fair that you can have a trial run, for free, before committing to anything.

It needs to be indoor. Just have a quick look outside….. We have had two and a half times the average monthly rainfall this month. Pushups in the mud sound enticing? Cancelled sessions due to poor weather just as you have found the motivation to change your life? Not what you need, we have enough stress in our lives remember! Sure we have option for training outside for the summer, but you should be going home just as clean as you turned up, with maybe just a bit of extra sweat on your workout gear.

So in a nutshell, I think bootcamp for fitness and fat loss should be fun, effective, guaranteed results, safe, indoor and have a free trial. It’s not a coincidence that our bootcamp has all of this in place.

If you want to try something different and turn your body into a fat burning furnace then look no further than Better Body Bootcamp. Hobart’s only boot camp for women that is guaranteed to deliver results in 30 days or you get your money back.

Hobart Personal Trainer’s Favourite Lunch

This has to be my all time favourite lunch.

Why? First of all it gets a tick in all of the nutritional boxes. Protein – Tick. Vegetables – Tick. Good Fats – Tick.

It’s dead easy to make, stores well (make it the night before) and will help you lose inches off your waist (unlike many other quick and easy lunches)

And because I have to eat it, there is a massive tick next to TASTE. That’s right, even healthy food should taste great.

The Super Ultimate Tuna Salad Lunch – Makes one large or two small serves.

160gms tuna shredded
Seasoning (salt/pepper/other mixed seasonings)
2 tsp mayo (the real, full egg stuff unless allergic)
3 Tbsp avocado (mashed)
1.5 Tbsp shredded parmesan
1 cup cucumber
1/3 cup red onion
1/3 cup chopped tomato

Throw tuna, seasoning, mayo, parmesan and avocado into a large bowl. Mix all together. Add remaining ingredients and mix lightly. Accompany with a green tea of your choice.

Afterwards, you might want to give the teeth a brush, or grab some sugar free gum. Tuna and onion, great for your body and health, not so great for the breath!!

Feel free to mix and match some of your favourite vegetables in there or let us know what special seasoning mix you are using.

Enjoy!
