The Super Ultimate Blender Bomb – Fat Loss Shakes

by James Kerrison on September 8, 2010

Ok folks here is one of my favorite recipes, it is the Super Ultimate Blender Bomb and you’ll see why it got that name in just a minute.

First of all though, lets have a look at some of the pitfalls of a number of so called ‘fat loss shakes’.

Many of these shakes, even though they are recommended as part of a low carbohydrate diet, contain large portions of cheap carbohydrates such as maltodextrin and dextrose. These are very high GI carbohydrates and will send your blood sugar to the roof in a hurry. The other reason the fill these prepackaged shakes with these carbs is that they are cheap. When you consider that the maltodextrin and dextrose powders sell for less than $5 a kilo and the higher quality protein powder costs around $20-$30 a kilo, it makes sense to the manufacturer to fill it up with the cheap stuff! Most people won’t read the label anyway and will be sold on the marketing and these companies know this.

Secondly, most shakes will only include berries, fruit or vegetables but not all three. These foods obviously give you bang for your buck when it comes to the vital nutrients that your body needs. Put simply the more of these you eat, especially the vegetables and berries, the healthier and leaner you will be.

Last of all, most shakes are still promoting the ‘low fat’ craze that was the 80’s and maybe the 90’s. But lets be honest, its the 21st century now. That means we are way (way, way, way) beyond that model of eating. Sure some fats are bad, but there are plenty that are good and most people need to increase their intake of these good fats. You just need to remember that calories do count so don’t go overboard.

Enough ranting, lets have a look at the Super Ultimate Blender Bomb.

  • 1 cup water or chilled green tea
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 serve whey protein (equivalent to 30 grams protein, I prefer chocolate flavour)
  • 1 teaspoon Maca smoothie blend
  • 1 Big Handful of spinach
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup berries of choice (I choose 1/2 Raspberries, 1/2 Blueberries)

Put all of the ingredients in a blender and blend for 30-60 seconds or as long as necessary to get rid of all of the lumps and stuff. You don’t want a lumpy shake.

Now a quick word of advice. You WILL NOT be able to taste the spinach. So just add it in there. The shake will be a greeny/brown colour so don’t expect a gourmet, fake looking shake that is all show and no go.

This shake is the opposite, all go and little show.

Packed with protein, good fats, good carbs, heaps of nutrients, fruit, berries and vegetables this seriously is the Super Ultimate Blender Bomb.
